Cuong Nguyen

Cuong Nguyen is a researcher in authoritarian resilience, social movement, state politics, and nationalism with a geographical focus on Southeast Asia. He is currently interested in the interrelationship among post-Doi Moi state-building, the disciplinary effect of the communist party institutions, and the emergence of contemporary social movements in Vietnam. His long-term research project traces the philosophical development of the republican discourse on Vietnamese nationalism and democracy via the political writings of Phan Boi Chau and Phan Chau Trinh.
